Whilst Towcester is an historic Roman market town, it certainly hasn’t stood still. Exciting changes are underway with the Moat Lane regeneration project providing a variety of new shops, housing, civic premises and it is believed a boutique hotel.
Other historical connections include a museum, church and The Saracen’s Head, which featured in Charles Dickens’ novel, The Pickwick Papers. Towcester has a population of around 9,000 people, which is expected to grow over the next few years.
With good road links via the A5, A43, M1 and M40, Towcester is 8 miles south west of Northampton, 10 miles north west of Milton Keynes and 30 miles north east of Oxford.
Towcester has a good range shopping facilities with major supermarkets, a monthly farmers’ market and smaller independent shops, a gallery, cafés, pubs and restaurants, as well as banks and a Building Society, local sports and golf clubs. There’s also a leisure centre with two swimming pools, flume and waves for the adventurous, fitness suite and racquet courts. For younger members of the community there are active scouts and guides groups and an air cadets’ squadron.
For the sporting enthusiast check out Silverstone Circuit, world-famous for motor racing and home of the British Formula One Grand Prix, as well as Towcester Racecourse, a well known National Hunt Racing course and now home to the Country’s newest greyhound track. Towcester is surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside, stately homes and pretty villages with active communities and some excellent local pubs.
